East Bay Card Show: JSA’s on-site authentication and CGC’s grading route differ

At the October 24–25 San Mateo event, Basic COA and LOA have different document timelines. CGC submissions go through FGS Autographs and travel to Sarasota, rather than being graded at the booth.

WHY IT MATTERS

For this show, distinguish JSA’s Basic COA from its later-mailed LOA documentation, and distinguish both from CGC submissions sent through the facilitator to Sarasota.

Choose the task before approaching the booth

CGC’s October 16 notice describes two different services at the East Bay Card Show, scheduled for October 24–25 at San Mateo County Event Center in San Mateo, California. JSA provides on-site autograph authentication; FGS Autographs, a CGC Facilitator, accepts submissions for later CGC work.

For an autographed card, identify whether the immediate question concerns the signature, the card’s condition or both. The word on-site in one part of an announcement does not make every service available as completed same-day grading.

Basic COA and LOA have different document timelines

For autographed memorabilia submitted for JSA Basic Certification, the notice says items are processed and finalized the same day. For a Letter of Authenticity, it says items are observed the same day but final documented results are sent later by mail.

Keep the service name and expected documentation with your item record. Same-day observation under the LOA route is not the same statement as receiving the final letter that day. The announcement links JSA pricing; this report has not tested eligibility, acceptance or completion for a particular autograph.

CGC submissions travel beyond San Mateo

The notice says FGS Autographs accepts CGC submissions at its event booth and that all submissions are transported to CGC’s Sarasota, Florida headquarters for authentication, grading and encapsulation. It does not offer finished CGC card grading at the show.

Save the exact card identity, chosen service and handover confirmation together. Ask the receiving facilitator about paperwork, the full quote and return arrangements for the particular order. The notice’s general statements about speed or shipping savings do not establish a universal completion date or free shipment for the reader.

Do not substitute one result for another

A signature-authentication result and a numerical card-condition grade answer different questions. Keep the actual documentation with the item and read what it covers before shortening it to a reassuring label in a listing or trade.

This report does not promise that an item will be accepted, authenticated or receive a desired grade. No show attendance, submission, payment, signature examination or shipment was tested. Follow the exact service and event instructions rather than importing a different show’s route or document timetable.
