WHY IT MATTERS
Read the event model first: Phantom play, retained digital cards and eligible paper redemption are separate collecting outcomes.
Event date: . This article’s publication date is shown separately above.
Check what the entry actually buys
Magic Online’s October 6 weekly announcement schedules Vintage Cube League to return on October 7 at 10 a.m. Pacific, or 17:00 UTC. The schedule labels its October 7–November 4 run Phantom and explains that cards from Phantom events are not added to players’ collections. Drafting a desirable card in that event therefore does not make it a digital card you retain.
The collector’s first question is about the event model, before the entry price or card pool: are you paying for play with temporary cards, play that adds cards to your collection, or a separate product intended for later redemption? A striking card in a draft list answers none of those ownership questions by itself.
Keeper describes a different collecting outcome
The same weekly page describes Modern Masters Pack Wars as a Keeper league: players open four packs across four games. It lists that version through October 14, when Strixhaven: School of Mages replaces it. That is a different event model from Phantom Cube, rather than a change to Cube’s collection rules.
For a collector interested in accumulating a particular digital set, check both the event’s keep-or-Phantom rule and its actual pack product. An opportunity to keep opened cards is not a guarantee of finding a named card, and neither event label establishes a route to paper copies. This article does not compare tournament returns or claim firsthand play.
Paper redemption is a separate full-set process
MTGO’s redemption policy, last updated September 28, requires at least one of every card in the eligible Main Set. It says individual cards, decks and collections cannot be redeemed, and bonus sheets are excluded. All cards must be regular for a regular redemption set, or all premium for a foil-for-regular redemption set. Its current Reality Fracture row identifies collector numbers 1–280 and lists October 21 for both regular redemption and foil-for-regular redemption. The October 6 weekly announcement also says those tokens are slated for October 21.
Treat October 21 as the published plan, not proof that a request is purchasable now or that stock will exist then. MTGO explicitly says the Store’s stock indication supersedes its schedule. It also says digital foil sets from Bloomburrow onward redeem for physical non-foil sets. Collecting digital foils therefore does not automatically produce a foil paper set.
Redemption removes the digital cards from the account once successfully processed, and the policy says that removal cannot be reversed. Review the current eligible set, supported destination, fees and shipping terms before trading toward completion. A digital set is not an additional paper set waiting to be claimed without a separate transaction.
Build the checklist around the intended result
For a Cube session, track the entry and play experience without counting drafted cards as permanent additions. For a Keeper project, track the actual digital cards retained. For paper redemption, build the eligible Main Set checklist and verify the Store and current terms before placing a request.
The weekly notice says Marvel Super Heroes and The Hobbit are not redeemable. Do not generalize Reality Fracture’s program to every Magic release, or treat a digital Commander deck as an eligible full Main Set. These are current source-based distinctions, not newly introduced October 6 rights or promises about future availability.
