WHY IT MATTERS
Treat the partnership as an announced service route; verify operational terms separately before submitting, buying or redeeming.
A proposed route from submission to custody
CGC and Deadstock announced a partnership on October 9, with Japan named as its first focus. Deadstock, operated by ATH Labs Ltd, is to provide a route for collectors and card shops to aggregate CGC submissions instead of individually arranging international shipping, valuation and insurance. The announcement says that route will accept cards from any set or region, rather than only Japanese-market releases.
The same plan includes a Japan-based vault for graded cards and digital ownership records on Deadstock’s platform. The publisher describes transferring those records while the physical cards remain stored, and says holders can redeem for physical delivery. These are announced service plans and capabilities, not an independently verified custody or delivery test.
Read the rollout wording before assuming access
The announcement gives two timing descriptions: its earliest implementations are expected to go live by the end of the year, while submission and vaulting programs are to begin rolling out in October, with CGC-card products following in that phase. Those statements do not identify an exact opening day or prove that every program is already accessible to an individual collector.
Check the actual enrollment and service terms for the route you want before sending a card or purchasing a product. The announcement does not supply a complete fee schedule, shipping eligibility list, insured-value terms or delivery timetable. A partnership announcement cannot fill those operational gaps by itself.
Keep grading and platform promises separate
CGC’s authentication and grading concern the submitted collectible. Storage, transfer of a digital record and shipment to a holder are additional services with separate questions. Keep the exact certified card and its identifying record together, then establish which operator holds it, what the custody terms say and how physical delivery is requested.
The announcement also says Deadstock’s digital pack products will expand to include CGC’s highest grades. It does not provide a release-specific pack checklist or odds table. That proposed inventory change establishes neither a promised grade in every pack nor a market-wide increase in card value. A collector interested in a pack still needs the actual product’s contents, probabilities and total costs.
