Evergreen source-based guide checked October 6, 2026. Manufacturer specifications are described, not independently tested. The 120/130pt discrepancy remains unresolved.
WHY IT MATTERS
Read count, thickness and card dimensions separately, and resolve contradictory specifications before choosing a holder.
Three numbers answer three different questions
A holder listing can put several measurements in one title. Read them as separate fields before ordering: how many holders are in the pack, what card thickness the product accepts, and which dimensions describe the card or the holder. A familiar number alone does not identify the right product.
Ultra PRO’s regular clear toploader listing provides a worked example. Its 35ct pack contains 35 individual holders. Separately, the specification says it accepts standard 2½ × 3½-inch cards up to 35 points thick. The stated 3 × 4-inch size is the holder’s outside dimensions. Count, thickness and outside footprint happen to share a title; they are not interchangeable.
Record the card before matching the holder
Make a short fit note: the card’s width and height, its thickness, whether you intend to use a sleeve, and the proposed holder’s exact model. Keep a patch or memorabilia card separate from a normal flat-card assumption. The fact that two cards depict the same player says nothing about whether they need the same protection.
BCW offers a card-sized thickness gauge and a printable PDF for choosing a toploader for thick memorabilia cards. It also prints a related gauge on its toploader and magnetic-holder packaging. Use the manufacturer’s measuring instructions and the exact product specification rather than assigning a thickness from a photograph or a card nickname.
A gauge helps answer a thickness question. It does not replace a width-and-height check or establish that a sleeve and card will fit together in every holder. If you cannot establish the fit, ask the manufacturer or a knowledgeable supplier before putting pressure on the card.
A conflicting specification is a reason to pause
A second Ultra PRO listing demonstrates why the full page matters. Checked October 6, its title calls the product a 130PT Super Thick Toploader and the description says it holds cards up to 130pt. A bullet on the same page instead says up to 120pt. The listing also gives interior dimensions. This review cannot resolve that disagreement by choosing whichever number is more convenient.
For a card near the disputed capacity, save the exact product link or SKU and request clarification. Do not treat the title, a retailer’s shorthand or the cavity measurement alone as proof that your particular card will fit. The useful result is a confirmed specification, not a forced fit or an inferred correction to the manufacturer’s page.
Separate fit from the job the holder must do
A holder that appears appropriate for home storage is not automatically the holder required by a grading service, postal process or display system. Check that destination’s current instructions independently. This guide does not certify a product for PSA submission, archival preservation or every shipping method.
Before buying, keep four items together: your card’s measurements, the manufacturer’s accepted card dimensions and thickness, the pack count, and any unanswered fit question. Compare price only after those fields describe the job you need done. This is a source-based reading of specifications; no holder fit or long-term protection was tested.
